Repmageddon Continues
The second week of Repmaageddon starts Friday, but you’ve still got time to catch the week one films! We’ve got at least one more show of The Seventh Curse, Pale Rider, Leaving Las Vegas, Thirteen Ghosts, and Speed (details here).
Repmageddon: Week 2
In the sci-fi slot this week we’ve got Godzilla. The grandaddy of Kaiju movies, back on the big screen for its 70th anniversary.
For old school action, we’re getting weird with Rachel Talalay’s apocalyptic punk oddity Tank Girl, starring a perfectly cast Lori Petty (and Ice-T in full kangaroo prosthetics).
The Fighting Fist of Shanghai Joe continues with the weird. This bloody spaghetti western/kung-fu mashup tells the story of a Chinese immigrant who runs afoul of violent slave traders.
For horror, we’ve got the second collaboration from the talent behind Re-Animator. Director Stuart Gordon returns, along with stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, for another round of over-the-top Lovecraftian horror in From Beyond.
Cinemagic fan favorite The Cat is coming back. Please, just watch the trailer. Even if you have no intention of watching the film. You’ll be glad you did.
Is The Wicker Man (2006) a mess, or a misunderstood classic? Honestly, we’re not sure. But there’s no denying that the films combination of odd narrative choices and a fully committed performance from Nicolas Cage have given the film an uncanny staying power.
Repmageddon, Week 2 runs Friday, August 2, through Thursday, August 8. Check out the ticketing portal for a full schedule.
VHS NIGHT: TRAXX Returns! With Cookies!
TRAXX is the only VHS Night film we play every year, and there’s good reason for that. It’s a criminally underseen action/satire about a violent mercenary (and aspiring baker) that gets informally recruited as a “town tamer” while attempting to launch his cookie business.
Keeping with tradition, we’ll have custom baked cookies for sale at the show, courtesy of Gift Bar. Flavors this year include TRAXX approved “Chile con Cookie” and “Puppy Swirls”.
VHS NIGHT: TRAXX plays Friday, August 2. VHS trailers start at 9:30, TRAXX at 10:00. Tickets
