Provoke 2022
On October 28, Provoke Fest returns with 10 woman directed horror films.
Provoke Pass
For those interested in a festival pass, we’re offering the much cheaper (free) and more user friendly Provoke Punchcard (Yeah, ‘punch card’ is two words, but we already printed them. There’s no turning back now).
It’s simple: when you go to your first film, ask the box office for a punchcard™. After that, we’ll punch each different movie you see. Once you’ve seen six different films, we’ll let you in to the remaining provoke films for free.
THE MOVIES
Slash/Back
Nyla Innuksuk - PDX Premier
Headlining this year’s fest is Slash/Back, the debut feature from Nyla Innuksuk. Slash/Back is a sci-fi horror film shot in the Inuit town of Pangnirtung, starring a young cast of locals. More…
The Hitch-Hiker
Ida Lupino - 1953
The Hitch-Hiker is a tight, sun-drenched thriller with a surprising mean streak, and a killer performance from William Talman as the titular hitch-hiker.
Revenge
Coralie Fargaet - 2017
At first Revenge looks like another tired grindhouse rape-revenge flick, but for Fargeat that’s only the starting point for a harrowing, bloody, and aggressively feminist horror-thriller.
THe Banana Splits Movie
Danishka estrehazy - 2019
This is an actual, real movie where the 1960’s Hannah Barbera characters known as “The Banana Splits” go on an animatronic killing spree.
The Slumber Party Massacre
Amy Holden Jones - 1982
We’re not bothering with a description, because with a name like Slumber Party Massacre, you know exactly what you’re getting.
The Being
Jackie Kong - 1981
The Being is an unrepentant creature feature with all the blood, guts, and weirdness you’d expect from Kong (Blood Diner).
Saint Maud
Rose Glass - 2021
Saint Maud came out early in the pandemic, and lots of people missed it in the chaos. That’s a shame, because Glass’ unsettling exploration of faith and madness is focused, masterful filmmaking.
Pet Sematary
Mary Lambert - 1989
Pet Sematary lays the atmosphere on heavy, and serves up an unrepentant slice of late 80’s horror.
RAW
Julia Docournau - 2016
A sweet, caring, erotic, repulsive whirlwind of emptions, wrapped up in a horrifying coming of age story. It’s the only film to return from Provoke 2021, which tells you just how much we like it.
