NOPE

Jordan Peele’s Nope is an odd beast. It has all the uncanny horror we’ve come to expect from Peele, but it’s built on the framework of an old school creature feature (with a little bit of western thrown in). The end result is the kind of unique, ambitious, gown-up summer blockbuster we want to see more of.

Apparently, it’s the kind of movie you all want to see too, so we’ve extended our run one more week.

Nope plays daily through August 10.

VHS Night:
DOLLMAN

Dollman is another straight-to-video offering from video store staple Full Moon. Early 90’s Full Moon put out a streak of great B-movies, and I a big part of that was thier knack for assembling great casts of character actors, and setting them lose.

Dollman is no exception. It stars VHS Night staple Tim Thomerson (Near Dark, the Trancers series), and features an early lead role for Jackie Earl-Haley (Nemesis, Watchmen). They’re supported by a deep roster of “that guy” supporting actors, like Nicholas Guest (the asshole neighbor in Christmas Vacation), Frank Doubleday (The Duke’s creepy sidekick in Escape from New York), and Frank Collison (The Hotdog Guy in The Happening, and a bit part in just about every TV show, including Cop Rock).

Combine a bunch of scenery chewing character actors with the hand-off direction of Albert Pyun, and you’ve got a winner. Like most VHS Night movies, Dollman will force you to re-evaluate your criteria for what makes a “good” movie.

August 5. VHS trailers start at 9:40, Dollman starts at 10:00.

Bodies Bodies Bodies

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the theater that hosted Provoke (an impromptu woman directed horror fest) and two separate A24 showcases would jump at the chance to play Bodies Bodies Bodies, an A24 produced slasher-comedy from director Halina Reijn.

It’s got a great young cast, and initial reactions are very positive. We’re really excited for this one.

Bodies Bodies Bodies starts on August 12.

One year gone

Thanks to everyone who came down for the March to 100. It was a very fun (and somewhat exhausting) week. There was a three-person tie for most movies seen at 10 movies,

We’ve got some cool stuff in the pipeline for year two, and we look forward to sharing it with you.
