The Inevitable
Big thanks to the Willamette Week for giving VHS Night a shoutout, but we would like to make one correction. The final paragraph includes this quote:
“I’m still waiting for the day we run one, and I’m going up to say ‘hi,’ and there’s just one person in the auditorium,” Kuechler jokes.
This is incorrect, I was not joking. When I gave the interview, I fully expected that someday one of our events would bring in exactly one person. I’m beginning to suspect I was wrong, because we’ve already sold a dozen tickets to a gonzo Doctor Strange knockoff we’re playing at midnight on Friday.
Time will tell…
Doctor Strange
in the Multiverse of Madness
I could write anything here and it wouldn’t change attendance, so here’s some computer-generated gibberish: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit Doctor Strange. Quisque faucibus sapien velit. Aliquam Multiverse of Madness erat volutpat? In volutpat turpis sed odio sollicitudin consequat! Sam Raimi non urna tincidunt interdum.
Doctor Strange MoM plays May 5 - May 26

Doctor Mordrid:
Master of the Unknown
This would be the aforementioned ‘gonzo Doctor Strange knockoff’. Doctor Mordrid was originally intended to be licensed Doctor Strange film, but when that fell through, the producers changed a few details and made the movie anyways.
The end result is a funhouse mirror version of Doctor Strange, starring Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) and Brian Thompson (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation). Like the best 90’s VHS classics, it exists in the uncanny valley between silly and awesome. Likeable characters, surprisingly solid stop motion effects, and a brisk 75 minute run time make for a great midnight movie.
May 6
11:40 - Doors Open, VHS Trailer Grab Bag
12:00 - Doctor Mordd: Master of the Unknown
The Northman - final Days
You’ve got a few days left to check out Robert Eggers brutal Viking head trip. We’ve also got a few offerings from Viking Braggot Company on hand. They don’t usually ship up to Portland, so it’s a real treat to have them on tap.
The Northman plays through May 5.
Tickets
The Inevitable
We put it off as long as we could, but the day has come: We’re going to have to raise ticket prices. On May 5, all ticket prices will go up by $1 (except VHS Night, which is unchanged). Our new prices will be:
General Admission: $9
Student/Senior/Military: $7
Matinee (Before 5:45): $7
VHS Night: $5
We never like raising prices, even by small amounts. We think movies should be accessible and affordable, and that’s a big reason why The Cinemagic is the way it is. This is a place where a bunch of people with little in common come to share an experience. We don’t want price to be any more of a barrier than necessary.
