Playing Catch up

This week is all about catching up on lost time. We’ve got a few rescheduled events, a few 2023 favorites we missed, a surprise Q&A, and Shakma.

This is Shakma. He is shocking audiences everywhere.

The Holdovers, with Production Designer Ryan Warren Smith

The Holdovers was one of our Favorite films last year, but it never seemed to fit the schedule. In the end, it all worked out for the best, because not only did we find a slot, but after our final show on Thursday night we’ll be joined by Ryan Warren Smith for a Q&A. Ryan was the production designer for The Holdovers, and his other credits include Green Room and True Detective. We can’t wait to hear his insights into the films impeccable period aesthetic.

If anyone pre-purchased tickets to a different show of The Holdovers wants to attend the Q&A, please contact us! We’ll happily move your ticket to the Q&A show.

The Holdovers with Q&A is on Thursday, Feb 8 at 7:00. Additional, non-Q&A shows will take place throughout the week. Tickets

When Evil Lurks

When Evil Lurks is a strong contender for the best film of 2023 that no one saw. Like many of the best horror films, director Demián Rugna’s film is a visceral thrill that doesn’t skimp on thematic intelligence.

After two brothers discover a demon will soon be born amongst them, the residents of a rural Argentinian town attempt to escape, only to discover that their reckless interventions have only accelerated the contagion.

When Evil Lurks plays various times, Friday (Feb 2) through Wednesday (Feb 7). Tickets

Anatomy of a Fall

Full disclosure: it’s hard to find time to watch new releases we aren’t playing at the theater. This includes Anatomy of a Fall, which is by all accounts an incredible film. So, yeah, we booked a movie because we really wanted to watch it. Here’s the official synopsis:

When her husband Samuel is mysteriously found dead in the snow below their secluded chalet, Sandra becomes the main suspect when the police begin to question whether he fell or was pushed.

The trial soon becomes not just an investigation, but a gripping psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel's complicated marriage. With conflicting evidence and inconsistent testimony, words are wielded like weapons and shocking truths come to light in this thrilling Palme d’Or winner.

Anatomy of a Fall plays various times, Sunday (Feb 4) through Thursday (Feb 8). Tickets

Previously announced

VHS NIGHT: SHAKMA is tonight (Feb 2). Can this movie possibly live up to the best trailer of all time? Well, no, not really. But it’s still a good time. Trailers at 9:30, show at 10:00. Tickets

Gamera: The Heisei Trilogy with Ayako Fujitani on Saturday (Feb 3). After some truly terrible weather messed up the original event, Ayako was kind enough to find time for a re-do. We’ll play all three films in the Heisei trilogy, and cap off the day with a Q&A with franchise lead Ayako Fujitani after Gamera: Revenge of Iris. Tickets

Family Flix: Frozen is Sunday (Feb 4) at noon. Our matinee with training wheels makes it’s (slightly delayed) return. All ages are welcome, but this show is aimed at kids who are just old enough or the movie-going experience. Tickets

On the horizon

Tickets just went on sale for the animation/live action horror-hybrid Stopmotion, and the cerebral sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two. Stay tuned for more!
