1985, Chan, Cheech, Chong, Deth, and a lobby

We just rolled out a ton of new booking, so it’s time for rapid-fire movie announcements. Here we go:

1985

From April 26 to May 5, we’re playing the best that 1985 had to offer. It was too many movies for one week, so for the first time we’re running a theme for 10 days. The lineup ranges from gonzo horror to throwback westerns, featuring…

Re-Animator (on 35mm) - After a year in the vault, it’s time to break out our top-notch print of the ultimate schlock-horror masterpiece.

Commando - Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as super-commando John Matrix. Explosions follow.

The Stuff - Another incredible satire/thriller from director Larry Cohen and actor Michael Moriarty, the same team that made VHS Night favorite Q: The Winged Serpent.

Silverado - Writer/Director Lawrence Kasdan (Body Heat, Raiders of the Lost Ark) brought back the classic western, and turned in an all-timer, thanks to brilliant production design and an incredible ensemble.

Desperately Seeking Susan - Susan Seidelmans one-of-a-kind mix of old-school screwball comedy and 80’s New York grit, made all the better by great performances from Madonna and Rosanna Arquette.

The Last Dragon - A ridiculously fun, Motown produced martial-arts-comedy-musical-satire. Made by a bunch of people who thought there should be more black martial arts heroes (so they did it themselves).

Fright Night - In the era of slashers, Fright Night brought back the vampire for a perfect blend of camp, terror and killer special effects.

the 1985 lineup runs April 26 through May 5. Schedule and Tickets

Cinema City: Drunken Master II

Released in the States as “Legend of Drunken Master”, Drunken Master II found Jackie Chan returning to the series that helped kickstart his career (even though it has next to nothing to do with the original).

Drunken Master II plays Thursday, May 2 at 7:00. Tickets

Paracinema: Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke

Is there a more appropriate way to celebrate 4/20 than messing up the date and doing it a week late? We think not.

Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke plays Tuesday, April 30 at 7:00. Tickets

VHS NIGHT: Trancers 2

Haven’t seen the first Trancers? No worries! The makers of Trancers 2 needed to pad out the run time, so they included detailed recap of the original right at the beginning of the movie. Jokes aside, Trancers 2 a blast, and it’s one of the hidden gems that inspired VHS Night in the first place.

Trancers 2 plays Friday, May 3. VHS Trailers at 9:30, movie at 10:00. Tickets are just $5.

And more…

Check out the coming soon page to see what else is on the horizon, including films from Wong Kar-wai and the return of The Evil Dead.
