Staff Picks

Summer ‘24

Amy’s Pick

Amy: Maybe the most quietly influential movie of the past 50 years (just ask any fan of Berserk, Daft Punk or Guillermo Del Toro), and certainly one of the strangest. Paul Williams lively songs are the perfect counterpoint to Brian De Palma’s acid wit.

Friday (7/19) - 9:45
Wednesday (7/24) - 7:00

JJ’s Pick

JJ: Watching Rent as a kid got me hooked on musical theater for life. The film is a beautiful tribute to Jonthan Larson and the original stage production (and the soundtrack still totally slaps!!). Pride month is over, but we should always make time for the lovers, fighters, and artists who paved the way for the queer community as we stand today, as well as everyone affected by HIV and AIDS.

Saturday (7/20) - 4:10
Sunday (7/21) - 7:00
Monday (7/22) - 4:00

Jade’s Pick

Jade: His “cat can eat a whole watermelon!” What more can I say? Ruben & Ed is a super weird, funny, and honestly kind of adorable cult classic from 1991. A real buddy film at its core. Crispen Glover and Howard Hesseman play off one another wonderfully as two misfits who form an unlikely bond over the burial of a frozen cat and a pyramid scheme. Also featuring Karen Black, which is always a plus!

Sunday (7/21) - 5:00
Tuesday (7/23) - 7:00

Jon’s Pick

Jon: Antichrist is shocking, immoral, and sick as hell. It’s also visually beautiful, poignant and cathartic. Lar’s Von Trier’s lone horror movie is one of the best.

Sunday (7/21) - 9:50
Thursday (7/25) - 7:00

Logan’s Pick

Logan: Great pirate films are few and far between. Curse of the Black Pearl stands out as a swashbuckling adventure from before the market was saturated with caped crusaders. A killer score, well choreographed sword fights, skeleton pirates, and Geoffrey Rush having a ball with his line delivery? Ya best start believin’ in good pirate movies, yer in one!
