Staff Picks
Spring ‘24
A grand total of five hard-working people work at the Cinemagic (owners included), and they handle everything from pouring beer to 35mm projection. It only seems right that to hand over the reins from time to time and let everyone pick a movie.
Nick’s Pick
On 35mm
Nick: I just got ahold of a 35mm print of Zhang Yi-mou’s staggeringly beautiful Hero, so of course I wanted to put it on screen. It’s a standout wuxia film with an intellectual streak that the (kind of terrible) promotional campaign did it’s best to hide.

JJ’s Pick
JJ: Forbidden gay 1960’s cowboy love… I don’t know what more convincing you’d need to see this tragic and beautiful classic. Come in western wear and cry in the dark with me!
Saturday (3/30) - 4:00
Wednesday (4/3) - 7:00
Logan’s Pick
Logan: Bram Stoker’s Dracula has everything I want in a film: horror, action, romance, brilliant art direction, and a stacked cast. The chemistry between Ryder and Oldman is palpable, Tom Waits makes an appearance, and Keanu’s accent isn’t that bad. I would cross oceans of time to see this movie.
Friday (3/29) - 6:45
Thursday (4/4) - 7:00
Jade’s Pick
Jade: Watch legendary Japanese garage rock band Guitar Wolf fight off zombies with the power of rock’n’roll (and fire). With unexpectedly sincere themes of love and loyalty that were way ahead of their time, Wild Zero is the epitome of cool. “Love has no borders, nationalities, or genders!!! DO IT!”
Friday (3/29) - 9:30
Tuesday (4/2) - 7:00
Ryan’s Pick
Ryan: I’ve been wanting to get more westerns on screen at the Cinemagic, it’s one of my favorite genres. So I thought, let’s not just bring one of the greatest western Directors (Sergio Leone) to the big screen, but go big with Once Upon a Time in the West, one of the greatest western epics of all time.
