Showing the finest in Cat Cinema and raising funds for the Oregon Humane Society

From December 13 - 24 we’ll be showing only the finest in international Cat Cinema. From bonkers horror films to bighearted documentaries, we’ll have something for cat lovers of all persuasions. Best of all, we’ll be set up to receive donations for the Oregon Humane Society for the duration of the event, and half the ticket sales for Cat Video Fest 2024 donated directly to the Humane Society.

Two years passed between our first and second show of Lam Ngai Kai’s spectacular sci-fi-action-horror-comedy The Cat. The next show came one year later. The next, only six months. At our present rate of acceleration, we’ve only got 4 years until we reach cat singularity, when all that’s left is a single, endless, overlapping show of The Cat.

House (Hausu) is a surreal Japanese horror-comedy about a group of schoolgirls that take a country vacation, only to discover the house they’re staying in is haunted. House is a one-of-a-kind barrage of vibrant imagery and wild imagination. More importantly, it features both an ominous cat and a blood spitting cat painting.

Cat’s Eye is a criminally underseen horror anthology based on a collection of shorts by Stephen King, and adapted for the big screen by the man himself. Surrounding them all is a wrapper story about a young girl [Drew Barrymore] and a heroic street cat named General, who protects her from danger.

The Cassandra Cat is a Czech film about Robert, a caring teacher whose town is visited by a troupe of performers and their cat Mokol, who reveals peoples’ true color when someone takes off his sunglasses. A true oddity, The Cassandra Cat is equal parts fairy tale and social satire, bolstered by the simple joy of watching a cat sit around in cool sunglasses.

It may be called Batman Returns, but this is Catwoman’s movie. Michelle Pfieffer’s scene stealing performance as the cat-loving anti-hero provides the perfect foil for the ever-serious Batman, and brings moral complexity that was unheard of in superhero movies.

The pitch is simple: you come down, chill out, and laugh at a bunch goofy cat videos while sitting in an auditorium full of like-minded people. Then we donate half the ticket revenue to charity, and send the other half to the people who made CatVideoFest, who donate even more of the money to cat-based charities.

Mon (12/23) 5:00, 7:00

50% of ticket sales for CatVideoFest will be donated to the Oregon Humane Society

Today, hundreds of thousands of cats freely roam the metropolis of Istanbul, just as they have for thousands of years. Claiming no owners, these animals live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame. Kedi is a documentary that follows seven of these cats through their daily lives, providing a fascinating cat’s eye view of Istanbul and its people.

In a secret lab, a team of scientists have done the unthinkable: genetically modified a cat so that a second, evil, mutant cat can live inside of it. Soon, the cat escapes to the yacht of a sketchy businessman, leaving no escape from the poisonous, mutant cat living inside it (except when it turns back into a floofy orange cat so it can get scritches).

The Shadow of the Cat is a 1961 horror feature from Hammer Studios. After witnessing the murder of her owner by two scheming inheritors, Tabitha (a cat, who has no magical powers and does not speak) sets out for revenge, while also evading the criminals, who know she is the sole surviving witness.
