There would have been no Golden Harvest without the films of Bruce Lee. Lee’s films were an international phenomenon that would fund the rapid expansion of the burgeoning Hong Kong studio. Lee could bounce between charismatic leading man and terrifying force of nature with ease, while his rapid fire, down to earth action choreography set the tone for Hong Kong cinema to come.

Directed by pioneering queer melodrama master Stanley Kwan. After scaling back US productions across most of the 80’s, Golden Harvest re-entered the US market in a big way with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Thanks to their experience with kung fu films, and some seriously impressive work from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the film was a success, despite it’s seemingly impossible combination of complex animatronics and constant martial arts battles.
