Dark Glasses
And the films of Dario Argento
Few directors influenced cinema like Dario Argento. His films redefined Giallo filmmaking, and cemented the heavily stylized horror-drama-mystery format we know today. His films pushed the boundaries, shaped the direction of horror to come, and inspired countless imitators.
We’re thrilled to bring a Portland exclusive engagement of Dario Argento’s newest film Dark Glasses to the big screen, alongside a few classic offerings from the director.
After a decade away, pioneering director Dario Argento (Suspiria) returns to his giallo roots with Dark Glasses (aka Occhiali Neri).
In 1970, Argento redefined giallo filmaking, and brought it’s style heavy blend of horror and mystery to the world.
When originally released in the US, a full 22 minutes was cut from Deep Red. It wasn’t until 2021 that a properly re-mastered version of the original cut was made available to US theaters, and that’s the version we’ll be playing.
Cat O’ Nine Tails was Argento’s second outing as director, and it finds the young director pushing at the boundaries of the genre he helped shape.
