Best of 2024
[Give or Take]
Ok. Fine. These may not be all of the best films of 2024. And maybe two of them didn’t technically come out in 2024. But everyone else is putting out “best of 2024’ lists and we wanted in on the fun.
This one should come as no surprise. Every time we ended a run of THE SUBSTANCE, we immediatly made room for an encore run. This will be our fifth encore for Coralie Fargeat’s modern body horror masterpiece, and we’re still excited to put it back on screen [again].

We keep a secret record of all the films we play and who acted in them. Nicolas Cage has long occupied the top slot for number of appearances. It’s not just because his outlandish personality makes for good promotion [we won’t pretend that doesn’t help], but because he’s an incredible actor with a deep and varied catalogue of films. His villainous turn in Longlegs is a terrifying reminder of just that.

In decades of exhibition, we’ve never had the cast and director of a film give us as much support as the crew of Dinner in America. Lead actor Kyle Gallner reached out and got the first booking started. Director Adam Rehmeier helped line it up. And lead Emily Skeggs dropped in for pro-bono Q&A. And now, when they were looking for more shows in PDX, they reached out and made sure we had first dibs. Best of all, even if none of this had happened, Dinner in America is a great film that we’d be happy to put it back on screen.
P.S. It also came out in 2020. But, you know… shrug.

PART ONE & PART TWO
Three years passed between the release of the first and second halves of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic, but you know what we thought would be cool? Watching both halves in one butt-numbing marathon, with the volume turned up really loud. So, on Sunday [1/5] we’re doing just that, followed up by a normal volume show of Part 2 the next day, for the [sane] people who didn’t feel like doing the whole thing in one go.
